I NEWSLETTER President's Corner by Michael Current June,1999

1 just received my new 256K MIO, which I purchased at one of our recent SPACE auctions, back from Bob Klaas of K-Products who returned it to working order. Haven't had much chance to explore what it can do yet, but I suppose I'll have to get around to trying to add a hard drive to my system!

Section 3. The officers shall be elected by a majority vote, or by acclimation if only one person is running, to serve for one year, or until their successors are elected, and their term of office shall begin at the close of the annual meeting at which they are elected.

While we were discussing the ongoing Bylaws updating project at the May meeting, Mike Fitzpatrick brought up a bit · of a bombshell. It seems as though we're not working with the most recent version of the bylaws. Our collective memory suggested that the Bylaws had been revised in fall 1994, but none of us knew for sure whether we might be able to come up with that revision. The copy I've been working from I got from Glen, and was dated from 1993.

Section 4. The President and Vice-President of SPACE shall actively seek volunteers to fill the following positions: Secretary, Disk of the Month (DOM) Librarian, Paper & Educational Software Librarian, Bulletin Board System Operator, and a Newsletter Editor. These volunteers shall be subject to approval of the club membership. For service rendered, these volunteers shall not be required to pay club dues during their term of office.

lfyou can come up with that 1994 revision, or with club newsletters from that period, please bring what you can to the next meeting! Meanwhile, we decided that the best thing we can do at this point, if we can't find the 1994 revision, is to continue to "modernize" the 1993 revision as we've been doing. At the June meeting we can have a vote to remove "In lieu of services rendered, elected officers shall not be required to pay club dues during their term in office." from Article Ill Section 3. nns DOES NOT EFFECT POLICY, because the same policy is mentioned later in the bylaws. I j ust wanted to have the policy appear in only one place to make it easier to deal with now and in the future. Let's look at Article IV next:

••••• I'd like to offer several suggestions for changes to this section. --I'm thinking the Secretary should be an elected officer position, like President, Vice-President and Treasurer. --Specify in Section 2 that the Secretary shall produce written Minutes for each meeting, and these shall appear in the Newsletter. --Drop the Paper & Educational Software Librarian volunteer position. --Drop the waiver of club dues mentioned for volunteer positions. (and plan on doing the same for elected officers when we get to that section. We're all paying dues now anyway, I believe.) Please come to the June meeting with your own ideas and suggestions! And keep using that Atari!

Section 1. The officers of the club shall be; President, VicePresident, and a Treasurer. These officers shall perfonn the duties prescribed by these bylaws and by the parliamentary authority adopted by the club. Section 2. The President and Vice-President shall Preside over the scheduled club meetings. The Treasurer shall keep account of the books and treasury of the club.

. Treasurer's Report Secretary's Report by Mike Weist June,1999 May 14, 1999

Space meeting started at 7:35 PM. Michael Current, Space club president, asked for a secretary report. Mike Weist, club secretary, recapped the minutes that were printed in May newsletter. Michael Current asked for a treasurer report from Greg Leitner, club treasurer. Greg reported that the club had a good auction in April, which took in $149. There was also a few membership renewals. Total income for April was $179. Greg stated room rent for 2 quarters was paid out, which was $390. The new treasury balance is $1376. Greg said there will be auction today after meeting and a shorten auction in June. Greg told the membership to keep buying DOM's and keep renewing memberships. Michael Current asked for a DOM report from Glen Kirschenmann. Glenn stated that the DOM for May was made from files on the CD and some boxes of disks. Michael Current also asked for a membership update report from Glen Kirschenmann. Glenn said there are 18 paid up members and l person renewing tonight.

OLD BUSINESSLance Ringquist, club member, stated that HASBRO is releasing incrypt codes for Jaguar to public domain. Mike Weist, club member, reported on Mid Winter Madness show held at Blaine Sports Center in Blaine, MN. Mike stated that he worked at Mike Schmidt's booth. He stated that the show wasn't well attended this time and couldn't find to much Atari stuff. Mike Fitzpatrick stated to the membership that the bylaws used by the club for the last 6 months are not current. Mike state that club bylaws were updated in 1994 with now defunct MAST. The bylaws used by the club are before the 1994 update. Mike Fitzpatrick will try to find a copy of 1994 bylaw changes. Michael Current, club president urges members to see if they have a copy of their September 1994 Space newsletter and bring it to next club meeting.

Even though it was opening fishing weekend we still managed to get ten members to show for the May SPACE meeting. We had to alter our plans for the May meeting somewhat due to the fact that our SPACE by-laws may have been updated after the 1993 ones we have been working with the last few months. By next month we should be able to sort this all out and then we can begin the process of updating the by--laws and posting a current version to date. Our auction was very well supported again in May and next month I will be bringingin the remainder oftheitems 1 have left. Among those items is a copy of Computereyes for the 8-bit and some commercial 8-bit programs. You don't want to miss the June auction as this will probably be the last one for a while.

Our May auction took in another $125.00 and with one membership renewal and some DOM sales our Treasury expanded to a whopping $1521.83. This is after paying for the May BBS phone bill and two quarters of the room rental. I wouldn't be surprised to see our balance top the $1600.00 after next month's meeting. We need to make plans next month for the July SPACE birthday party. Please join us so that you can contribute to the discussion and also to put your name on the list if we decide to go with a pot luck. A cookout like we had a couple of years ago is another option that was mentioned. Let 's get your input.

It was good to see some old faces back at the meetings and I hope more old faces will keep turning up. I always fear that when I don't see someone for a couple of months that I may never see them again, so it is very warming to see that the Club still can draw old-timers back again.
