February 2019
•February 2019 Edition•
I just learned about this the other day. Sijmen Schouten (Mr. Atari) has a project going around giving our 8-bit Atari computers the ability to use classic bulletin board systems found on the Internet... via your household Wi-Fi! The main key is the ESP8266 from Espressif Systems. I barely understand what this is, but it seems to be a little chip that can access a Wi-Fi network, and which is fairly simple to interface with. So, Mr. Atari has created a new little DOS for the Atari, called LiteDOS, for which he has created an R: device driver that knows how to communicate with the ESP8266. The combination ends up looking and working like a modem to the Atari. You can read all about it, and download the software for the Atari, here: http://www.mr-atari.com/Mr.Atari/LiteDOS/. I’d love to see this in action! Who wants to try it? Thanks, keep using that Atari, and come to your next SPACE meeting: Friday, February 8, 2019. Not much to report for the newsletter as only Glen, my wife and myself were present for the January meeting. All I can say is that you all missed one of the best 8-bit DOMs I’ve ever seen and I want you all to buy it so I hope you don’t forget to get one when you can make it to the next meeting. Since I was the only member besides Glen in attendance, the only sale we had was the one 8-bit DOM for $3.00. We had $418.54 at the beginning of the month, and ended the month at $421.54. I paid our room rental fee for 2018 in the amount of $300.00 on December 14, 2018, so having a balance over $300.00 at this time is quite amazing. I feel good knowing we already have the funds for our 2019 room rental expense. Let’s hope that we have more members show for the February meeting.
HELLO WORLD! Well, I am back with another Secretary’s Report. I wanted to apologize for not making it to last month’s group. Transportation can be hard for me sometimes. So, I apologize for not being there. So, this will be a short Report. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it for the February meeting either, due to transportation issues again. I have to rely on others with my unique transit situation. So, I am sorry for the inconvenience. I should be back in March of this year for the third SPACE meeting of 2019, providing the weather holds up for the meeting. I hope that it will not be like the cold spell we had earlier in January. That was nearly intolerable. The cold even messed up the furnace in my building. Horrendous! But, I will continue to work on the Newsletters, so please send your articles to yours truly, and I will publish them. Thanks. With that I will close, using the famous ending salutation of the late, great cartoonist, Stan Lee. EXCELSIOR! TRIVIA TIME! Veteran Activision programmer Carol Shaw got her start at Atari Corporation. She went on to create the smash hit video game, “River Raid.”

NOTE: Due to the fact that I cannot make it to the next meeting in February, there will be no A8 DOM Review for the February 2019 newsletter. I apologize for the inconvenience. There will be a triple-review in the March newsletter.

We hope to see you there. Thanks!
