NEWSLETTER for March 2013 President’s Corner
Treasurer's Report
by Michael Current March 2013
by Greg Leitner For February 2013
Welcome to March! After last month's newsletter was relatively lengthy, it seems this month there was a dearth of news items to share.
We had very nice weather for our February meeting which is typically a iffy month. I can't say much for the weekend as it was not so much the snow but the freezing rain that made it almost impossible to be on the roads. As for me I never left the house on Sunday and that is usually the day Jackie and I do most of our shopping and gassing up the cars. Anyway it warmed up nicely thereafter and it was back to business as usual.
The Atari bankruptcy saga is ongoing. While the French parent Atari SA has found short-term financing that caused them to withdraw their European protection filing, the US subsidiaries, including Atari Interactive, continue through the Chapter 11 process. It may take several months. Here is the URL for official updates on the proceedings: http://bmcgroup.com/restructuring/geninfo.aspx?ClientI D=316 SPACE Newsletter digitization update: I finally made a little progress again, with two new issues added last weekend. Going back in time, month by month, I've made it back through January 1987 as of this writing. Visit space.atari.org to bring back old memories! As often happens, a single snippet of information found in the Newsletter led me to all sorts of research to work through. In this case it was a mention that the Supra 1200AT modem for the Atari was the same as the Avatex modem. I didn't even have the 1200AT mentioned in my FAQ. So I spent a lot of time finding the specs of that modem, and updating the specs on the rest of the MPP/Supra modems, which led me to revisit the whole world of modem R: device drivers... Which led me to look again at just how the 1030 modem works, with its built-in T: modem device driver... Things can get complicated in a hurry! It seems there'll never be a shortage of things to learn about when it comes to the Atari. Do you ever feel the same way? Thanks, keep using that Atari, and come to your next SPACE meeting, Friday March 8, 2013. **********************************************
I wanted to let you all know that Mike Schmidt agreed to send Nolan a PDF monthly of our SPACE Newsletters and not only will it save the Club much needed funds but I am sure Mike will appreciate the time savings for himself. Here is the financial report for the month ended February 28, 2013; Beginning SPACE balance for February 1, 2013:
620.56
Receipts for the month of February: Membership renewal Dom sales Total receipts for February 2013
15.00 12.00 27.00
Expenses for the month of February: Room Rental for 2012 Web-site for February Total expenses for February 2013
300.00 10.00 310.00
Ending SPACE balance for February 28, 2013
337.56
I also paid Mike Schmidt for the Newsletters owing to date which I did after I ran the treasury report so it is not reflected in this ending total. The amount was $58.64 and if we had to pay for our room rental in advance we would have been short the funds. Thankfully that is not the case and we should be alright this year, but you can all see where this is heading. Thanks to Mike we have taken the first step in saving funds for the future room rental payment, but we still need to have those membership renewals and those Dom purchases to make up the difference and kee the Club going. We talked about this problem in February and there are ideas out there that we can continue on discussing at out our future SPACE meetings. Let's keep this Club going. See you all in March 2013.

Secretary's Report By Steve Peck For February 2013

Well, another month, another SPACE Meeting, yet another Secretary's Report. The meeting commenced as of 7:43 PM on February 8, 2013. We had seven members present at the meeting. We were talking about how SPACE could survive financially. Lance came up with the idea we could research getting grants since we are a non-profit organization, after all. I am all for this idea and we should bring it up to Pres. Mike Current, who could research it and, possibly, write a grant proposal for SPACE. It could bring some financial stability to the Club.
I think it is crucial to at least bring it up in future meetings to keep the option on the table. This was really the main focal point of the meeting: saving and raising money to preserve the Club's financial integrity. That is A-OK with me. We also discussed another Black Cat Theater demo at the Club next month when more folks show up for the March Meeting that may have not seen it the first time around.
Well, that concludes the Secretary's Report. As always, I close in the words of that ever-great artist and visionary, Stan Lee…
EXCELSIOR! ******************************************** ******************************************** ******************************************** ******************************************** ******************************************** ******************************************** ******************************************** ********************************************
