AUCTION THIS MONTH! We've acquired a tremendous amount of Atari equipment in recent months, both 8-bit and ST, and now it is time to reap the rewards. You won't want to miss this!
What an enjoyable meeting we had last month. Michael made the trip from Wisconsin and along with four other members we talked nostalgic Atari among other topics. It's been quite a while since I've enjoyed a SPACE meeting like the September one.
It was a small but excellent meeting last month. I decided to make the trip despite yet another rotten day, and fortunately it ended up being a fine trip, and a really fun meeting. The entire META STE system that I picked up in Madison is finally ready for our upcoming auctions, after traveling in my car from Madison to Milwaukee, being split between my car and brother's car, "my" portion further traveling to La Crosse, to Iowa City, back to La Crosse, and finally to Falcon Heights. Welltraveled, but it should be well worth it!
Michael and his brother brought the Mega STE system to the meeting and there is a lot to sort out before I include this in our auction. With the help of Tony, we will try to find time in the next couple of months to go through the enormous amount of software that was donated to SPACE along with the hardware. We will have this ready to auction at our December Xmas meeting. Also, we have a 130XE for the 8-bitters many other items to surprise you at the Xmas auction.
I was thinking the Newsletter is going to be slim from now on, now that we're done with A-T-A-R-I and also that Atari news has slowed down so much. However, it seems I just need to shift where I find news items! I just found many new news items I hadn't seen elsewhere at http://www.ataritoday.com/ which is a "news aggregator" site just for Atari computer news, both 8-bit and ST. I think this will be my new primary news collecting tool. There is still plenty going on for the Atari computers after all!
1040 ST computer with 2 megs SC 1224 color monitor for the ST Fast hard drive from ICD 800 XL computer 1050 floppy disk drive Power station Color bubble jet printer Gemini 10x printer Percom floppy drive 1701 Commodore monitor New 1010 recorder Much, much more
Of course we are also having an auction next month at our October meeting. Don't think that the December auction is going to have all the good stuff. Here are some of the items to peak your interest:
I will add other goodies to the list to make the October auction a (do not miss out) meeting.
Have I mentioned, AUCTION THIS MONTH? Yes? Well, here's another reminder: AUCTION THIS MONTH! Thanks, keep using that Atari, and come to your next SPACE meeting, Friday October 12, 2007.
Here is the SPACE financial activity for the month of September 2007: Beginning balance as of September 1, 2007: Receipts for the Sept. meeting: Membership renewals Dom sales Total receipts

No expenses for the Sept. meeting Ending balance as of September 30, 2007:
834.51
Not bad. But we should be getting at least a six month room rental bill shortly and that will reduce our balance by at least $150.00. With a few membership renewals (including my own) coming up and with the expected great results from our October auction I think we will be looking really good. The next three meetings are very important for the Club and you should all try to make them. Of course we have the auctions for October and December, but we also have elections coming up in November. Please try to make all three meetings, and bring lots of money for the auctions. I think the meetings are going to be a lot of fun and I am very much looking forward to them. See you all there.

There was a particularly nasty bug that would cause a bus error under certain circumstances, so hopefully the problems many has had with poor stability should be gone now. The new beta is available at http://atari.nvg.org/Taskbar/. Please read the documentation carefully before installing, and report any bugs to me. Thanks. Most noticeable bug fixes: * Removing icon assignments failed under certain circumstances. - Fixed. * Icons assign to the desktop button wasn't always saved. - Fixed. * Redraw errors in the clock area. - Fixed. * "Start shell" crashes with a bus error under certain circumstances. - Fixed. And this was a serious bug! Everyone with Taskbar 3.99 should really, really upgrade, and this bug would cause lots of mysterious crashes. ********************************************** From: Michael Current [michael@mcurrent.name] Sent: Saturday, September 29, 2007 8:58 AM Subject: Smurf 1.06 - first release after going GPL Smurf 1.06 - first release after going GPL Aug 25, 2007 - 10:18 AM :: GokMasE
DTX Manager is utility for Atari 8-bit hackers and crackers. It allows the user to modify DOS 2 executables. It can import/export add/move/readdress/remove sections (segments) of these files.
Gerhard Stoll has published a new binary release of the graphics application Smurf on his webpage. The new version is labelled 1.06 and is the first release of this program after it was distributed under the GPL.

Edit: Gerhard is currently in touch with the original Smurf authors in order to try and retrieve some missing parts of the source code.

Now large parts of the code has been completely rewritten, and many bugs eliminated.
