For January, 2001

So we had another exciting auction last month, and we have yet another this month. This month's auction will feature a virtully COMPLETE run of Antic magazine, going back to the very first issue, volume 1 number 1, April 1982. If you don't have these "rare" early issues, don't miss your chance at this month's meeting! We don't plan to have an auction in April, and we'll have enough stuff left for one more auction to plan for May. But folks, that's it! We're just about through selling off the library. So it's getting to be about that time where we have to consider what to do with the big ticket items in our possession: the huge set of Dorsett educational tapes, and the MAST (and SPACE) disk libraries. And even more importantly, we'll have to start really looking at our :financial situation, without an auction to supplement our income nearly every month. Things aren't dire just yet, but we can't afford to ignore our near future. Just a couple weeks back I heard from from PACE, the Pinellas Atari group, who asked about our PO Box Gust our luck that they sent their last newsletter during that window when our PO Box wasn't available), and let us know that we won't be receiving any more Pacesetter newsletters because their club has just folded. We know 01' Hackers also recently folded. What is the future of SPACE? Is our goal to be the very last ofthe last of the Atari clubs? Ifwe can do it, I say, let's do it! I can promise you that as long as I live in the area, I'll participate in our club. If enough ofus feel the same way, we could go on indefinitely!

With Mother Nature once again battling it out for our precious time on another Friday night meeting, we held our own with nine members braving the cold and the roads. I commend your commitment to the Club and your welcomed contributions you r.: like to the meetings and of course the treasury. Your purchases of the Doms, your membership renewals and your bidding on the auction items are what is keeping SPACE going strong. We are coming down to the last of our SPACE items for our auctions and I can see maybe one or two more this year before we have sold everything. There are a couple ofissues we need to discuss next month about what to do or how to auction off the last of our holdings. This involves our MAST library and the Dorsett tapes, and there are a lot ofboth of these two items. This is how our Treasury looks for the month ended February 28, 2001. Balance at February 28, 2001 : I also wanted to throw in here a thanks toward Glen for the February DOM. I love demos like these! I know the great demos can be a pain to find, especially when so many turn out to not be NTSC compatable, but I sure enjoy them! Thanks, keep using that Atari, and come to your next SPACE meeting, Friday, March 9, 2001.

This balance could be reduce further by the fourth quarter 2000 room rental that has yet to be billed to SPACE. I would

think that by the time we meet in lvfarch I would have this bill and our Treasury will actually be sitting at around $965.00 which is still very good considering that our major expenses will be paid pretty much up to date.

We still need to see our members keep up on renewing their memberships on a timely basis seeing that our income will suffer with the loss of our auction sales in the near future. Your yearly membership fee will be our major source of income and the purchase ofDoms also. Well, next month my wife and I are off to Disneyworld on Saturday morning right after our March SPACE meeting. We leave at 5: 50 in the morning so I hope our March meeting will be rather on the short side. This will be our first vacation trip together wihtout at least one of our children along so we are calling this the Honeymoon we never had. So I will probably be feeling like someone who won the big game and was asked what I will be doing now and I can answer: I'm going to Disneyworld! !!

Secretary's Report By Mike Weist For February, 2001 Space meeting for February 2001 opened at 7:40 PM. Michael Current, Space club president, welcomed members to the meeting. Michael asked for a secretary report. Mike Weist, club secretary, recapped minutes printed in February newsletter.. Michael asked for a treasurer report, Greg Leitner, club treasurer, reported that 21 DOMS were sold at January 2001 meeting ($63). The auction in January took in $46. There were no expansive for January. The treasury stood at $1224.25 ($109 gain). After January meeting $43.56 was paid out to Mike Schmidt of newsletter expense. There was a Space club Post office box renewal at $100 paid out. Nolan Friedland was paid $20 for BBS cost for 2 months. The treasury will now stand at $1080. Greg has contacted the City of Falcon Heights about being billed for room rent. This will reduce the treasury further to $824.

Michael asked for a DOM report. Glen Kirschenmann, DOM chair, gave a report. The disk of the month for February has a Gennan Demo, SHAKE & FANCY on side A. On side B is a Gennan game called TECHNOLD. Michael asked for a membership report. Glen Kirschenmann, Membership chair, gave a report. Glen said membership is down by 2. Red Muchow and Mike Schmidt need to renew. If Nolan Friedland wants, he can renew tonight Michael asked for a BBS report. Nolan Friedland, BBS SYSOP, gave a report. Nolan stated that the BBS is getting more calls.

Since many people are asking, before christmas I made the promess that I'll release a two-button version of my Atari~toPC joystick interface (http://users.swing.be/atari/joystick.html). For people who don't know, this device let's you connect a classical Atari Joystick to your PC through the gameport. No extra software is needed, and it can be used with any Atari emulator (atari 2600 and atari 8bits emulators. It is always better to play old atari games with REAL atari sticks). I've been working in a new version supporting 2-buttons joypads such as the Atari 7800 joypad. Well, this version needs a lot of work and it is not finished yet. BUT, I have an intermediate version with the following characteristics : - less electronics (and easier to build) ; - support also a 2-buttons device : the Sega Megadrive joypad. For the version supporting the Atari 7800 joypad, you'll have to wait a little bit (I have not enough free time). But enjoy what has been done till now : http://gauss.math.ucl.ac.be/~manu/a2pc You'll find there GIF and TIFF versions of the schematics. The TIFF ones have the correct resolution/size to be printed out by any 300dpi laser printer on a A4/letter size sheet of paper. Enjoy and have fun,
